"Meditation 3" was written with my daughter in mind, when she still a little girl. (She's married now.) The idea with this piece was that she would be able to play either part. So the texture in both parts is intended not to be difficult - on one reading of the material. There is another way. Although the violin part can be played pretty much in first position throughout, when I do it I like to play up the string wherever appropriate. So for a mature performer I would recommend playing sul G or sul D, starting with the opening three notes. Ideally these would be played 0 3 3 on the G string (not 0 1 3). And so on. There's nothing child-like about the sound of the piece when played in this way. - Piano, violin - Violin |
